The first movie of the Year, Everything Everywhere All At Once.
And God, what a way to start.
If I listed out every reason why I loved this movie, put a timestamp on everytime I cried, laughed, smiled. This would be the longest website in the world.
I had high hopes coming in, I knew this movie was amazing just by looking at the poster and the fact it had Ke Huy Quan. But soon I was 30 minutes in, 1 hour in, then two hours and then it ended with a fucking mitski song and if I wasn't crying before I definetely would've then.
To me, this film shows what comedy can do. It's silly, it makes you laugh, you sit there wondering "the fuck am i watching?" we're disarmed, we're laughing, only to be hit by such a sad topic. And we don't know whether to continue laughing or stay silent, we feel both sad and happy and it feels good and terrible all at once.
Everything was just amazing, everywhere, in every parts of the movie. The costumes, the editing, the atmosphere, at some points I felt I was right beside them, part of the movie. The acting was fucking terrific, holy shit Ke Huy Quan!
Nothing matters, everything matters, does it matter? Just as the movie says, every new discovery just reminds us how small & stupid we are. I think this movie discusses shit like this so well, how the earth revolves around a sun, revolving around the center of the milky way, revolving around a fuckin' supermassive black hole. Each one of our lives is an insignificant speck in a sea of bigger, more insignificant specks.
And you could decide everything you do is futile, as you'll die one day. Or you can decide everything is futile, and you'll die one day.
You can choose the bagel. Life is mostly dull and bad, joy is fleeting and ultimately meaningless. Or you can choose the googly eye. Life is mostly good and worthwile, suffering is transient and fixable.
In more simple words,
Nothing matters... or nothing matters!!
In conclusion, A24 had released YET ANOTHER banger I cried over.
